ABOAT ME

My love for paddling began when I enrolled in a whitewater kayak course in the Fall of 2014. Later that school year I got the chance to sea kayak for over a week in Cumberland Island National Seashore. I learned more from paddling than I would have ever imagined possible that year, and to this day I am only partly joking when I say that the river is one of my greatest teachers. For the past 10 years, paddling has been a prominent part of my life along with teaching and a few other passions. I have been fortunate enough to combine my passions into one profession as an outdoor educator, leading week long paddling and backpacking expeditions. With this honor comes a great deal of responsibility to care for, educate, and appropriately challenge my students in outdoor settings. As a long time resident of the mid-Atlantic region, I have paddled many waters from the mountains to the ocean. Along the way, earning my ACA Level IV Whitewater Kayak Certification and ACA Level II Sea Kayak Certification. Now, I am inspired to share my passion with you. Come boat with me whether you are interested in going kayaking for the first time or you want to advance your paddling skills and knowledge.

Essentials of Sea Kayak Touring

Cost: $120 per day

This course is ideal for participants who are interested in paddling larger bodies of water such as lakes, bays and oceans. Similar to my Introduction to Kayaking Course, the first day of this course will include land based and water based activities. On land we will review basic terminology, properly fit equipment, and discuss common sea kayak hazards. Once on the water, will move through a progression of paddle strokes and kayak maneuvers. Depending on time and conditions, we may go over sea kayak rescues and practice some before wrapping up for the day. Day 2 of this course is designed to be a day of adventure and exploration on the water. Prior to launching, we will go over some basic navigation skills, kayak convoy, and emergency procedures. Taking into account factors like the weather, wind, waves, water, and group ability, we will choose a route to best meet our needs.
